Paris - 700km of new bike lanes by 2014 Paris of course is famous for it's Velib bicycle sharing system. Interesting points on the Velib experience on the ABC documentary: Since Velib, the number of trips taken by non-velib bicycles has doubled. So the biggest increase in cycling has come from the privately owned bicycles not from Velib. This was unexpected and shows how getting more cyclists on the road encourages others to join in. The film shows some physically separated bicycle lanes, like our Swanston St (north) lanes. The only helmets seen are on skaters. Now lots of one-way streets are two way for bicycles: http://spectrum.ieee.org/energywise/green-tech/mass-transit/putting-the-bicyclette-first
