Bill Cawte - Independent Candidate for Brunswick
Better Bike Paths Now
Bill's policies:
Bicycle Policies for Brunswick, election 2010 Victoria
- Construction of a Melbourne to Bendigo Rail Trail, along the former Heathcote line. Regional economic stimulus through cycle tourism.
- State
Government to override Melbourne City Council and devise a sensible
shared access regime for cyclists and pedestrians to Melbourne's
‘garden' parks. Safer access to the CBD for less confident cyclists.
- Glass beverage container deposit legislation. More recycling, and fewer punctures! Let's make our city ‘barefoot safe'.
- Upgrade the Westgate Bridge Bike Punt and run it 24/7. Bike access for the South West.
- Traffic
fines graduated according to income, and penalties for different
vehicle classes to reflect potential for causing damage. Common sense and equity in traffic penalties.
- Custodial sentences and destructive impoundment for road rage against cyclists or pedestrians. Rein in the hoon element and make the streets more inviting for less confident riders.
