ALP - State Election 27/11/2010
Labor has a
bicycle policy that appears to be mainly based on existing projects and planning within Government.
For example, it refers to bike lanes in William Street and Lonsdale St, already promised in the
Victorian Cycling Strategy published March 2009. In respect of these lanes, City of Melbourne has already
indicated that it won't put them in (these are not State Government controlled roads).
The policy also includes costed projects to the value of $26M which if spent over the four year term of the next government would amount to halving the amount spent on bicycle infrastructure compared with the 2009/10 financial year - see the Vic Roads
annual report.
Conspicuously absent is any improvement to
St Kilda Rd, where the State Government has been blocking the City of Melbourne's Master Plan ever since the Council announced segregated kerbside lanes there.
