Bike routes in the CBD
Plan for article:
- City of Melbourne applied via VicRoads for a 40km/h speed limit in the CBD. This was knocked back by the Labor Government Minister for Roads. 30km/h would be more appropriate.
- explore CoM bicycle plan comment "space not available"
- State Bicycle Plan - Latrobe St, William St physically separated bike lanes?
- Need: Bourke St lanes joined through the Mall and the superstops (if Swanston St superstops can have bikelanes, why not Bourke St?)
- Need: Flinders St bike lanes.
- This will give a grid:
- Nth/Sth: William, Swanston, Spring
- E/W: Flinders, Bourke, LaTrobe
- Northbank floating path: would it be a very expensive recreational white elephant? Doesn't connect with the CBD in enough places, therefore doesn't help bicycle movement to destinations within the CBD. Flinders St lanes much more economical.
